38 weeks
I’ve officially made it to 38 weeks (as of Monday) so no
preemie this time! I do have to admit there are a few advantages to having a
preemie – I don’t remember having such a hard time doing the dishes, the
backaches, and being so uncomfortable while sleeping. I am glad that I am to my
3rd trimester – and “full term” so I no longer deal with “morning
sickness” or trying to be careful/modified bed rest. Although my body gets
tired/sore easily I now don’t worry when Brandon wants me to pick him up or I
need to haul laundry up and down the stairs, vacuum, push shopping carts with
kids (and lift kids in and out). So many things that I tried to avoid I can now
do again!
As of last week our little girl had been breech (as far
as I know since November) I was starting to get nervous that she wasn’t going
to flip (and I didn’t really want to have a c-section if I could avoid it) so
last Thursday (2/13) I went into the hospital for a version. I was so grateful
for all the prayers on my (and our baby’s) behalf since the version itself took
less than two minutes and wasn’t even painful! (That is not normal – the doctor
commented that she has never turned a baby so easily). That afternoon and all night
I had contractions (harder than I’d had before during this pregnancy) but by
the next morning they slowed down again—and yes, as you already know, I’m still
pregnant.
I think that is one thing that is so tricky after having
preemies – wondering every day/week when the baby will come. Basically being
prepared from 24 weeks on that it could be any day (or not). For the last three
weeks or so, I’ve tried to make sure the house is clean so that if I went into
labor at any moment I wouldn’t feel embarrassed about the state of my house –
well, I hate to admit but that in and of itself is getting exhausting and if
you are lucky enough to watch my kids when I actually go into labor, please
note that if my house isn’t currently clean, it’s been clean a million times
before (so just pretend it still is – thanks!) And on the note of “plans when I
go into labor” this has definitely been the most complicated time around. It
was soo easy when we lived in San Francisco student housing and had so many
friends seconds away, Scott was going to school at the hospital and we didn’t
have any kids in school. Now, I have to have plans A, B, C, D, E… in case Scott’s
at work an hour away, Matthew’s at school, it’s the middle of the night, I can’t
get a hold of someone… (you get the picture).
Well, we are really excited for our little girl to arrive
(and the kids are too). Every night (and several times during the day) Matthew
and Cameron will come up and kiss/hug my tummy. I’m not sure if Brandon totally
gets it, but he does keep asking when the baby is going to come. So the waiting
game continues… will it be tomorrow? Will I get induced a week after my due
date (March 10)? Or will she come sometime in between – your guess is as good
as mine.
