Matthew's First Birthday Party

Last weekend we went to my parent's house to celebrate Matthew's first birthday (since they were out of town for his actual birthday). On Saturday morning we had "Train Crashers" (waffles with icecream and toppings). Matthew was in for a bit of a surprise when he went to dig into his food.
I guess the icecream was a bit cold for him.
Once we took the icecream off, he seemed to enjoy the waffle.

Matthew attempting to open his presents (I guess he got a little distracted by the paper).
Matthew sporting his new sunglasses. He wasn't too happy when they were on his face, so we let him wear them around his neck.

Matthew's 1st year of Life

So I thought it would be fun to post pictures of Matthew's first year of life. I think the hardest part is going to be choosing which pictures to include. Hopefully there aren't too many.
Matthew's first day... 2 lbs, 14.5 inches.
Hard to believe at one time overalls from Build-A-Bear barely fit him.
I'm not sure exactly what Matthew is doing, but we thought it was cute.

Matthew looking cool for the camera (notice no more oxygen!)

Matthew smiling big for the camera.

I forget how bald Matthew used to be.

Look at that face!

Matthew in Hawaii.

Look! Matthew finally has some hair!

This shot was a little scary to take.

Matthew sitting in a tree.

Isn't he cute?

Matthew playing in the grass.
Matthew on his first birthday eating cake! I should have taken a picture at the end because by the time he was done eating/playing all that was left was what looked like cake batter.

Before the Blog...

For those of you that are interested in how our family came to be… let me start at the beginning… when Scott and I met.
It all started the weekend before school started my sophomore year of college. I had been invited by some friends to their ward BBQ (which just so happened to be Scott’s ward). I was wearing a shirt from Hong Kong and since Scott had recently returned from a mission in Hong Kong he came over and asked me where I had gotten my shirt. I told him my family just got back from vacationing there and it didn’t take us long to discover that he and my brother had served a mission together in Hong Kong. I soon found out Scott was the “new roommate” of my guy friends that had invited me to the BBQ. Needless to say I saw quite a bit of Scott the first few weeks of school as we did group activities such as night games, Frisbee, chicken fights, Shrek II, football games, and more BBQ’s. Scott got up the courage to ask me out on our first date. We went miniature golfing at Trafalga, ate pizza at the park and then watched a movie. After four months of dating and having a blast, we decided we wanted to get married. So after another four months of being engaged we got married in the Bountiful Temple on May 28, 2005.

At this point, we both had two years left at BYU. (Scott was studying Biology to become a dentist, and I was studying math education.) We both graduated from BYU in April of 2007 and were surprised to have a new addition to our family in May rather than August. I guess Matthew was so anxious to come that he was born 3 months early, only weighing 2 pounds.

That summer we had several visits to the hospital and were happy to bring him home after 2.5 months. Luckily, Matthew has had no lasting complications and is pretty much a normal baby now. Last week Matthew turned one, and I think that pretty much catches you up to now when our blog is starting. Oh, did I mention that we are expecting our second child the middle of September… well we are!!
